This typeface is a conventional serif with pronounced thick–thin modulation and an overall crisp, engraved feel. Serifs are bracketed and relatively sharp, with compact proportions and a restrained, upright stance. Capitals show strong vertical stress and controlled curves, while lowercase features a two‑storey a and g, narrow apertures, and clear, slightly calligraphic joins. Numerals are lining with similarly high contrast; the 0 is oval and the 8 has a distinctive, slimmer upper bowl. Spacing reads even and text color is firm and dark, with a slightly condensed rhythm that holds together well in paragraphs.

It performs well for long-form print and editorial typography where a traditional serif voice is desired, such as books, magazines, and essays. The strong contrast and compact rhythm also make it effective for headings, pull quotes, and formal collateral like programs, invitations, and institutional materials.

The tone is classic and bookish, conveying authority and tradition rather than informality. Its high-contrast strokes and crisp serifs give it a refined, editorial character that feels suited to established institutions and print-centric communication.

The design appears intended to provide a familiar, dependable text serif with a slightly old-style, print-derived sharpness. It aims for legibility and a confident, formal presence, balancing classical detailing with a clean, contemporary consistency across capitals, lowercase, and figures.

Details like the ball/teardrop terminals (notably on forms such as j and y) and the sculpted ear and spur treatments add a touch of historical flavor without becoming decorative. The short lowercase proportions emphasize a solid baseline and strong verticality, producing a compact, emphatic texture in continuous reading.
