A robust text serif with pronounced thick–thin modulation and strongly bracketed serifs. The letterforms show a confident, slightly calligraphic construction: rounded bowls are full, joins are firm, and many terminals end in subtle beaks or flares (notably in forms like C, G, S, and c). Uppercase proportions feel classical and steady, with a broad, open C and O and a distinctive Q featuring a sweeping tail. The lowercase maintains a compact, bookish rhythm with sturdy stems, clear serifs, and a two-storey a and g; numerals are weighty and well-anchored with traditional shapes and strong baseline presence.

Well-suited to book and long-form editorial typography where a sturdy, high-contrast serif can maintain clarity and a consistent text color. It also performs convincingly for display sizes—chapter titles, magazine headlines, and institutional or academic materials—where a traditional, authoritative voice is desirable.

The overall tone is traditional and editorial, leaning toward an old-style/Scotch-inspired seriousness that reads as credible and established. Its dark color and assertive serifs convey authority and a “printed page” feel suited to formal, text-forward communication.

The design appears intended as a conventional text serif with a strong, print-oriented presence: high contrast for crispness, bracketed serifs for continuity, and classic proportions for comfortable reading and a familiar literary tone.

In running text the font produces a dense, even texture with clear vertical emphasis and crisp internal counters. The italic is not shown; the roman’s terminals and bracketing provide most of the character, giving it a slightly historic, book typography flavor without becoming ornate.
